ELIZABETH WELCH
Elizabeth Welch
Elizabeth's work is greatly inspired by natural forms, carefully using photos from research trips and wildlife reference books. Each piece is made painstakingly by hand, using a borosilicate glass; a hard glass mainly used in scientific and functional applications due to its strength and durability.
Elizabeth melts rods of glass creating colourful and quirky creatures and sculpture. Colour is given to the glass using various different metal oxides. There is an amount of experimentation to do on each colour as one works differently in the flame to another.
Each piece has been allowed t cool in an electrically controlled kiln to anneal it for lasting durability. Pieces are carefully packaged into gift boxes with carded polyester stuffing to support them whilst in transit to your home.
